Pile Rd Changes
« on: August 06, 2009, 07:35:46 AM »
                 ATTENTION
   CHANGES TO TRACK CONDITIONS

A proposed new trail is to be constucted between the bottom and top trail heads, providing a one way loop system, ie, Grizzlys will be ONE way down.

Due to the increased amount of riders usinf this section of trail, the South West Mountain Bike Club, in conjunction with D.E.C., for SAFETY reasons is to contruct a new "up" trail which will also have links between itself and Grizzly's, offering shorter loop as well

Construction is due to take place in early September.
All comment and help are welcome.

They should make derailleur hangers in the shape of a bottle opener, everyone would carry a spare.

That is a great idea, I've come across numerous people in the fast sections through there coming up while I've been going down, and have to dump it into the bush. Excellent news.

It will also create about 6km+ of brand new trails to add to the area.

Fully support it, the line of sight is shocking in some sections. It is only a matter of time before something really nasty happens.

It'll be good to have a specific up trail, I've never really thought that grizzlys worked on the way up, even taking my natural proclivity for riding downhill.

Yeah its developing well.
We have finished 1/3 of the up trail atm.
The next 2/3 is in the process of design.  Margret river, cape to cape, IMBA oz has slowed us down a bit, but now we are going flat out at pile rd. Marking of the trail should be finished in the next couple of weeks. The DEC need to check it, and we will take it from there.

Basically it will be a trail parrallel to grizzlys trail, approxe 300 meters apart. There will be a couple of sections to cross over to the other trail.  No matter wich way you ride it or from which trail head you start from, It will be all one way traffic enabling us to design TTFs that can be ridden without fear of someone comming the other way and destroying your flow.  It will be like a massive stacked loop trails system all one way.
We are trying to find the best and most interesting bush to ride thru, spending days just walking and discovering the areas not to go into, and refining the areas that we like. We are finding some good logs to ride which seems to be a character of our trails.

Because of the fear of headon colisions, DEC are happy to help with fast tracking to get this trail finished as pile rd trail  get busier by the month.

I have GPS data up to where it comes out at a power line. Have a look on OSM maps.
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html
It's in GPX format. If you like I can email it to you.
I'm so fast that last night I turned the light switch off in my bedroom and I was in bed before the room was dark.

We have it all done, just in a few different tracks, so need to combine.
Thanks anyway :)
