STATE GRAVITY RACING COMMITTEE
Inaugural Meeting Minutes

Norfolk Hotel, 20th February 2010

Present:
John Barton (chairman)
Clint Ricetti
Brock Dwyer
Bec Barton
Christine Baarspul
Piet Baarspul
Cat Neve
Paul Neve
Holly Baarspul
Rex Dubois
Bec Goodlich
Corey House
Phillip Barnes
Damien Bergsma
Doug Stewart
Mac Hoskin

1.  Form
The group will be a sub-committee of WAMBA.  It will oversee races, dictating the standards that must be met and helping out with organisation.  Actual running of the races will be left to the clubs.  At least one rep from each club should attend the WAMBA meetings and be part of enforcing the rules within their club.  Pending further discussion with the clubs, ir is propsed that Doug Stewart will act for Perth, and Rebecca Barton for Peel.

2. Commissaires
  • For the commissaire requirements, see: http://www.mtba.asn.au/cms/uploads/policies/commissaires_at_events_v9.pdf
  • We have three commissaries in the state at present, all national level accredited.   In order to be able to commissaire a state level event, applicants need to do an online course, and then commissaire a club level event whilst being supervised/assessed by a national level comissaire.
  • It is proposed that we can trade commissaries with cross country events, so that people who become commissaries won’t have to miss out on racing.
  • All people present at a race need to know that the commissaire has the ultimate authority.
  • People willing to train to become commisaires are; Clint, Doug, Piet, Mac, Rex, John, Bec.

3.  Safety
  • Crashpads.  We oughta have them.  Can look at getting them through WAMBA grants.
  • Marshalls.  They need to be better briefed about their role at races.  Should be provided with printed material, which will be discussed in a breifing before practise starts on each racing day, where marshalls are told their duties.  Can be done by the commissaire.
  • Need to be more vigilant in making sure people have bike and safety gear that complies with MTBA requirements
  • Ambulances should be present at all events, UNLESS the race is within 15 minutes of an ambulance station.  In that case, two professional first aiders should be present on site.
  • Each racing venue should have literature drawn up with a map of the track, and the location of essential services shown on it.  This should be made available to all competitors.

4. Event registration and structure

Races are to be run in accordance with the MTBA guidelines, with some changes where practical, ie, all classes will be allowed two runs, and a top 30 should be included.  The guidelines are found here: http://www.mtba.asn.au/cms/uploads/policies/organisationguide06.pdf.  The parts specific to downhill will be typed separately and posted here later.

All riders must pre-register for state races.  Entry will close at 5pm, three days before the race.  There will be a grace period of the first two races (Geraldton and Nannup rounds this year), where entry on the day will be allowed if people had not heard about the rule.  After that, no excuses.

  • We must ensure a system is in place for online entry
  • At each state round, entry forms for the later races will be available
  • Pay on the day options will be provided

5. Calender
The 2010 event calendar is as follows.  The Super 8 series rounds will likely be changed to state rounds, pending feedback from PMBC. No longer valid!

Date   Event            Club      Venue
17-Feb   Albany club downhill      ACC      Mt Clarence
7-Mar   Albany club downhill      ACC      Mt Clarence
21-Mar   DH skills clinic         PMBC      Goatfarm
21-Mar   DH Skillz day         PDMBC      Dwellingup
28-Mar   Albany club downhill      ACC      Mt Clarence
11-April   Albany club downhill      ACC      Mt Clarence
18-April   Club downhill         PDMBC      Dwellingup
25-April   ‘Super 8 DH’ #1         GMBC      Geraldton
16-May   Club downhill         PDMBC      Dwellingup
23-May   ‘Super 8 DH’ #2         PMBC      Nannup
6-June   ‘Super 8 DH’ #3         PMBC      Bridgetown
13-June   Club downhill         PDMBC      Dwellingup
4-July   State Round DH         PDMBC      Dwellingup
18-July   Peel 4X round         PDMBC      Goatfarm
1-August   State Round DH         PDMBC      Wellington Mills
15-Aug   ‘Super 8 DH’ #4         PMBC      Goatfarm
29-Aug   Club downhill         PDMBC      Wellington Mills
12-Sept   Peel 4X            PDMBC      Pingelly
26-Sept   ‘Super 8 DH’ #5         ACC      Mt Clarence
11-Oct   ‘Super 8 DH’ #6         PMBC      Golden Grove
24-Oct   State Championships DH      PDMBC      ? ? ?

Extra 4X rounds still need to be added in.
  • 2 races at Pingelly, one at the Goatfarm, and later State Champs at the Goatfarm
  • Three Chillies will possibly host a race on 18th July, but it’s up to the riders to prepare the track and run the event.
  • 4X skillz days are also suggested.  John is to provide an available date to Clint, and he will organise a coach
  • It is agreed that two 4X races should be held at BMX tracks, to help with crossover riders and because 4X tracks are in short supply.  Cockburn and Albany are the suggested venues.

6. Race Fees

We should work towards having the same fee to race at all state rounds, regardless of the venue, or who is running the event.  However, events should not be run at a loss.  For this season, we will work at helping clubs in reducing the cost of running events.

Meeting closed at 5.55 due to the room being booked out...

Little off Topic but is the Geraldton Round still going ahead, been cancelled or is it all up in the air still?

I have a feeling that if it's not on PMBC's list, then it's not on anymore Hamish, but I don't really know.  Hopefully someone does.

Jeez Bec, don't you know anything?! Perth isn't running Geraldton anyway, the reformed Geraldton club is. I finally heard from them today (care of a forward from Dissa) and they're asking us down here if it's still on. So right this moment I take that to mean it will most likely happen!

No.  Are you surprised? :D

I only heard of this race from Dissa's early information, so I figured if he'd taken it off the list then it was canned.  Tell us the new calendar oh great one!

I don't actually know what the above means, I just wanted to be included......

I will say it again even though everyone will still miss it.

PMBC only ran the races it did because it was left with looking after the tasks of WAMBA (Calender/State round)as it had become defunct.
WAMBA is now and always has been responsible for the Calender and the State round. Thus why the uninformed thought PMBC had control. Which was partly the truth. PMBC has been doing the work of two committees for to long and now is happy to loose the burden.

Doug Has kindly taken on the brain burning tasks of the calender and contacting all the clubs to create some kind of a hub of information.
Kudos to him and cheers also to John Barton for his work. I hope WAMBA will have "OUR WA" calender out soon.  8)

Cheers to all for being so patient. Feel free to join WAMBA to help DH in WA. A voice without the backing of an Australian body ISN'T A VOICE AT ALL THESE DAYS.
The WAMBA website is under construction at the moment and will be available soon.

I am no longer working for WAMBA or PMBC as issues at home have cut off my spare time. Good luck and free riding to all.

And thank you very much Chris for all your work, with PMBC, WAMBA, Goatfarm maintenance, shuttling huck to flat rides in Dwelly and just generally being the positive easy going face of mountain biking!
On behalf of the Mountain Bike Chapter(Albany) Thanks Dissa.  See you on the trails. ;)

They should make derailleur hangers in the shape of a bottle opener, everyone would carry a spare.
