What bike? Trail/XC
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:59:37 AM »
I'm not really a brand whore or think that some brands are magically better than others which leaves me at a disadvantage for picking my next lightweight play XC/Trail bike, enduro bike. Which one???

I have chucked XC in there, not because I'm racing but over the years I've found that I prefer the more XC orientation rather than the Chopper style that most punters push around nowadays.

Some choices:
Just sold my bike. The question is what should be my next one?

Chain Reaction Cycles have some cheap Iron Horses going
Iron Horse Bootleg 3.0 (4" XC/Trail rig) $1800 ish allowing for shipping).

Iron Horse MKIII Comp (5" Trail rig) $1800ish

BMC Speedfox SF02 $4000 from local shop (Red as in picture)

BMC Trailfox (last years model) $3000 from local bike shop  (Black)

You ride trails.

1. Iron Horse MKIII Comp (5" Trail rig)

2. BMC Trailfox

They should make derailleur hangers in the shape of a bottle opener, everyone would carry a spare.

How about a www.Corratec.de

I know the distributor, and he is doing some great deals on them at the moment. I will have a large Airtech here in a couple of weeks.

There is a 120-140mm travel adjustable rig, and a 100mm XC bike. They both pedal very nicely. Excusivity bonus: it will be one of 3 in WA as far as I know.

I have owned a BMC, a fourstroke, not the lightest or best pedaling bike, and the paint was beautiful but very thin. It was uber bling though, and I wish I still had it.

White bikes don't work well for product shots on a white background when there's no shadows, it's really hard to get a good look at the frames of a lot of those bikes.

Do the Corratecs have a pierced seat tube with the shock mounted through it or something?

Yeah, thats it, sorta similar to the old Stumpy. Its a strange design I agree, but it works.

Bad photo. There is a CNC alloy link that lets the shock pivot down during the travel, which ramps it up a bit towards the end. They call it 2-circle.

Standard shock is a rockshox Monarch, but you can upgrade to a RP23 or even the DT Swiss carbon thing.

Santa Cruz Nomad would have to be rite up there also with an air sprung Lyric......when I win Lotto that's what I'll be getting.
The LBS in Albany has two pre-loved Mojo's with terriffic builds that would be worth checking out.

So how does the Genius, IBIS, Santa Cruz compared to a Ironhorse Bootleg 3.0

FOR UNDER $2000?

Second the Scott Genius...
I ride one (so I’m bias) but it is truly awesome. Fitted a Joplin R seat post and bash ring and she's ready for anything I throw at her...
Traction control is a gift; 150mm, 100mm & Hard Tail makes it adapt to any situation and makes a long climb a dream compared to my mate on his Reign. (Just seen you 2k post... thant would be an issue...)
