Margaret River Social Ride
« on: March 09, 2010, 09:42:42 AM »
Hi Guys

While a social ride may still be on the cards, the DEC have put up "No Moutain biking" signs on the "not legal" Carters Rd trails. It seems they are a little peeved at all the attention that this area has been getting off late.

Thus, a social ride may still be on, but it will have to be confined to things like the 10 mile brook fire rd's etc. Not real exciting but it's the state of play at the mo.

Cheers

Wino

Is there any plans afoot to transform the "not legal" status of the trails?

We've got together down here and are planning to address this. But we think it needs to be softly softly, from the locals, and without any commercial or race agendas.

They should make derailleur hangers in the shape of a bottle opener, everyone would carry a spare.

Hi Wall

Could you refrain from contacting the DEC about this until we've had a meeting and chance to discuss a few things. Nick Radice has been in contact with you and will forward some info soon.

Who exactly is "we"? Who is the committee that is making these decisions about how to proceed with this area? Does anyone on this committee have any advocacy experience prior to this?

Sorry lots of questions but from an area that has historically never joined a club, never formed a club and never been bothered to be engaged in the process of legalising trails a magical "WE" seems to have appeared.

Whoa, ease up, if that's the welcome they get for forming a "we" they might think twice.

Wino answered the same question to me via email, they're all members of SWMTBC and want to work through the club as a Margaret river chapter.

I've offered support from WAMBA when needed for contacts, funding etc.

Thanks for the support Jagman, nice to have some real comments from someone instead of the usual postive vibes from Scratchy.

Jagman, As a member of the trails committee for the SWMTBC I'm not aware of this "We".

Yes I'm aware of a chapter being formed and I've just talked to JD and Mike is part of that so welcome aboard Mike. I wasn't aware of anything though in regard to how to proceed with this trail area although Mikes opinion on how best to proceed is taken on it's merits.

Hey Trav.

We look forward to having you on board with us.

How about we all take the glass is half full approach and look forward with positive and reaffirming attitudes

"We" are the Margaret River Comunity that have an interest in Mountain Biking.

"We" have always existed, although maybe not in the guise that others outside the region would want us to.

"We" always have had, and will continue to have an interest in local trails in and around Margaret River.

Many of "Us" are now part of the SWMTBC as fully paid members, and thus if you like, "We" can be known as the Margaret River Chapter of the aforementioned club.

"We" are now also here to be apart of, consult with, and provide the local spring board for, the forwarding of recreational mountain biking in the Margaret River Region for riders of any age, ability or disciplin.

I hope that all, including Trav, can view this with the positivity, support and comradery that is needed at the moment by the Margaret River Riding community.

Mike,
I have always supported the establishment of legal mountain bike trails and the engagement of the community for the benefit of the environment and the whole community.

I support the trails, if the riding community is aligned with that. That is good.

I look forward to the MR boys FINALLY joining US and getting serious about this process.

Excellent

We are looking forward to "alligning" ourselves with an agenda that has been worked out by a consultative and inclusive proceess that results in the best outcome for recreational riding in the Margaret River sub region.

Cheers

I beleive the best way forward at this stage is to continue with a social ride in magret river.

It can second as a talkfest/meeting/council on how to keep the existing trails.

The Cape club, WAMBA, Perth club is invited, so too everyone else.

A concern is helping the C2C organisers with singletrack for the event, which has given huge promotion to the sport, and the region.
