Post mount to IS mount brake adaptor - unicorn ?
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:13:12 PM »
Hey There.

Is it possible to get this sort of adaptor ? My forks have Post Mount, but in reality there is far better brakes in the IS mount range.

I was just on TBSM and seen this

http://tbsm.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=514

Is the bottom Left hand adaptor the one I am after ?

Thanks
Pete.

Post mount and IS brakes are the same, the only difference is the adaptor. Post mount you mount the brake calliper directly to the fork, IS mount you need an adapter between the calliper and the fork (or frame).

Arh wise one !

Okay then. Do I need to get a bigger spacer/bolts to space out if I want to go to 185mm ? Or Do I just order 185mm IS brakes and hope for the best?

Technically, yes, you can just use longer bolts and spacers. I've never actually tried it, but as long as you aren't going much bigger it shouldn't matter (160 to 185 mm is only spacing out 12.5mm).

Yeah but you can get IS brakes that mount directly to the IS tabs on the frame or fork. All the adaptors I've seen are for mounting post-mount brakes on IS tabs. I've never seen an adaptor for mounting IS brakes to a post mount fork (not that I've looked).

Ooops. Looks like every brake I've had has been a post mount  :-[
