3mm Allen Key - Long...
« on: December 04, 2008, 12:48:45 PM »
Howdy everyone,

I'm part way through putting my forks back together after a major clean and service with new seals. Only thing is that I need a 3mm allen key that is about 300mm long (or maybe longer, forgot to take the measurement), and I don't have one. My mate is supposed to be welding something up for me at work today, but he has a habit of forgetting these kinds of things. I'd really like to put my forks back together this week so I can hit up Canning Mills Rd for the first time on Saturday arvo. Anyone got one I could borrow for an evening?

Thanks.

PS. If you are thinking of riding on the weekend, there'll be two or three of us there early saturday arvo...

Are you sure that that's the only way to get it back together? If you have a fairly large diameter than you can fit in there you could use a heap of extensions on a ratchet bar with the allen key heads on it. How did you get it apart without one?

I completely forgot about that - that was going to be my plan when i took them apart! The bike shop ended up pulling that leg apart for me when they fitted the seals. I'll go to bunnings and buy myself a set of allen key sockets tonight... The shop put the leg partially back together in a different way to the manual, which is why i need the key. I think that i will try and find a long key anyway as I need it to adjust the damping in the forks (the socket won't fit through the spring to do that adjustment) when the fork is together.
