Like the ad says, "Time for a break, time for a Kit Kat". Or why you shouldn't ride your MTB right now.&nbs p; Have you ever wondered why Canadians are so passionate about MTBing? The simple answer is that they are forced to take a long break from it for about half the year while the ground is covered in snow and mud. So when they can ride, they are passionate having had a break from the sport for a while and got out and shred. One of the problems in WA is you can ride all year round, b... more

Well it seems that there are loads of spots within most info websites to tell a tale of riding in the west of our brown land but no, I cant seem to put my finger on many at all. Take the Bicycling Australia website for example. They wouldn't have a clue where to ride in WA. Do volunteers have to do the work of a paid publicist for them? Bicycling Australia "Where to ride" As you can see, the above link takes you to some pile of nothing that would leave me to wanting to read the dictionary rat... more

    travisd He He,
I would just say the Barossa. They talk a good show on the MTB front but IF I wrote a guidebook for SA, it would be a hell of a lot thinner, shit it wouldn't even be a book, more a pamphlet!

There is some good things happening, maybe not publicly but behind the scenes, with planning things take years not months and some areas. By the middle of the year both Jarrahdale and Kalamunda Circuit should be signposted and for the first time every the majority of riders will have access to a large legal network of singletrack, two actually!

russcox I think focusing on the positive and finding some momentum is always the way forward. WA is overlooked in many ways, and this is definately true in our sport.

I think more people should get involved in what they love and do something about our situation. I recently joined the Peel commitee so I can try and help out something that I have took for granted in the past, race organisation, trail advocacy etc. Its no secret, people involved in all of our clubs and WAMBA work very hard for small victories with little recognition for what they do.

There are always a dedicated few and im sure we can turn things around, WA has so much potential to provide what we want, good trails, facilities and racing.

russthedog IMO as a NSWelshman at the moment, its just a numbers game. Trails and tracks are as good in WA as anywhere else in Aus. Sure you may not have lift access anywhere nearby but noones really that close (its 5hrs from me to Thredbo). lift access rules ftr.

Over east theres just way more people - percentages would be the same ie 2-3% of the MTB community do something. Just that here the three clubs Im involved with all have over 100 members and the biggest has 250 (WSMTB). So that means each club has around 3 active people as opposed to half a person in WA.

We lose and gain tracks at the same rate for a whole raft of reasons and trails get abondonded, although the good ones dont.

I think what Travis says is right really
